Officials identify victim in Saturday's fatal Hall County house fire

The blaze engulfed the 3,500 square-foot home early Saturday morning, officials said.

HALL COUNTY, Ga. — Fire officials said Saturday morning that the body of one victim has been recovered following a large house fire in the 6200 block of Old Stringer Road.

The victim was identified Sunday morning by Hall County authorities as 61-year-old Kimberly Carter of Alpharetta.

Officials said the cause of death and is pending the autopsy and the coroner's findings.

Crews arrived at the 3,500 square-foot home at about 2:50 a.m., to discover the two-story home fully engulfed in flames, according to Division Chief Zachary Brackett with the Hall County Fire Services.

According to Brackett, a neighbor who saw the fire initially alerted officials about the blaze.

Brackett said the home sits on a basement and that the blaze was fully involved on all levels and that a partial collapse of the structure had occurred.

A crew of about 25 firefighters were being used to battle the blaze, Brackett said. He said a water supply was established and defensive operations were used to fight the fire from outside the building.

Brackett said officials had spoken with the homeowners, and said they were in Florida for the holidays and were returning to the area.

Brackett initially indicated that one person may have been inside the home, which led investigators' search.

Hall County fire investigators are on the scene working to determine the cause of the blaze. According to Brackett, the cause of the fire will take a while to determine.
