WATCH: The sweet moment young man with Down Syndrome learns he's accepted to UGA

Huffman had dreamed of the day when he would be able to attend the University of Georgia. Thanks to a new program, he'll get to.
Jordan Huffman, who has Down Syndrom, recently found out he was accepted into the Destination Dawgs program for students with intellectual or developmental disabilities at the University of Georgia.

Going to college is a big deal for most young people, and waiting on those acceptance letters can be agonizing.

Jordan Huffman was in that category…until now.

Huffman had dreamed of the day when he would be able to attend the University of Georgia.

He’ll finally get that opportunity after he got a letter from the school congratulating him on his acceptance into the inaugural cohort of the Destination Dawgs Program, which helps prepare students with intellectual or developmental disabilities transition and become independent adults.

Huffman’s mother Kathryn Junod recorded the moment her son, who has Down Syndrome, found out and shared the video with 11Alive News.

Junod said her son has always wanted to go to college, and this UGA's program is one way for him to "fulfill his dreams and reach his full potential."

"It's great that parents of children with disabilities have options that provide a college experience while teaching job skills and independent living," she told 11Alive.

Huffman will start the brand new program January 2017, but he's already spent time at the Athen's campus over the summer for team building exercises and tours. Huffman will take classes at UGA beginning next year and will get a certificate of completion once he finishes the program.
