ATLANTA -- A beagle mix has a new reason to thank his lucky stars.

The 3-year-old dog, Bookie, survived a near-fatal collision with a vehicle, but was left paralyzed from his back legs to his tail.

In order to get around, Bookie has had to drag his back legs. Despite his setbacks, he's been described as upbeat and healthy.

Back in December, the LifeLine Animal Project picked up Bookie after his owners were evicted from their home. It was love at first lick, and soon staff and volunteers began a collection among themselves to purchase a wheelchair.

About a week and a half later, Bookie was reunited with his owners. On Friday, Bookie got even more good news.

The staff at Lifeline presented Bookie with his very own wheelchair. It didn't take long for Bookie to take his new wheels out for a spin.
