CONYERS, Ga. -- The parents of an alleged bank robber were none too pleased with their son's actions and got him to turn himself in to police.
The Conyers Police Department said Heard Dooley from Covington tried to rob the Best Bank inside a Hwy 138 Kroger. The 20-year-old allegedly approached the teller and passed a note demanding cash. When the teller refused, Dooley continued to plead with him until he finally ran away. Police said Dooley never pulled out a weapon.
Investigators said Dooley told his parents about the incident one day later, and they went with him to turn himself in to police.
Police praised the parents actions.
“In today’s society, it is reassuring to find parents who recognize their child’s wrongdoing and promote accountability for their actions,” said Conyers Police Chief Gene Wilson.
Authorities said Dooley had no criminal record, and this was the first attempted bank robbery since 2011.
