DALLAS, Ga. — A Paulding County mother died following a fire at her Dallas home in mid-December, according to fire officials.
On Dec. 12, Paulding County firefighters and deputies were dispatched to a fire at a home off Heritage Way in Dallas after a 911 call was received by the woman’s teenage son, who had just come home from school and found the house full of smoke. He attempted to get inside the home and save his mother but was pushed out by heavy smoke and heat.
Soon after the call, deputies arrived and entered the home. Wearing respirator masks, they located and quickly extinguished a fire in the kitchen, but were unable to get upstairs where the woman was trapped. Shortly after, Paulding County Fire and Rescue arrived and went into the home and found the 46-year-old woman unconscious in an upstairs bedroom.
The woman, who was in cardiac arrest, was brought to the front yard and crews began performing CPR and other lifesaving measures. The woman was transported to WellStar Paulding Hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after.
“We are very sad for the loss of life that occurred at this house fire. Something of this nature is tragic any time of year, especially during the Christmas season. Despite heroic efforts by Paulding Firefighters and our partners from the Sheriff’s Office, the fire resulted in the death of one of our citizens, and our heartfelt condolences go out to her husband and son. Despite the terrible outcome, I’m proud of the professional public safety personnel here in Paulding County who regularly risk their lives to save others,” said Paulding County Fire Chief Joey Pelfrey.
Fire officials say the cause of the fire was an electrical fire that began in the kitchen.
