Peach Drop returning to Underground Atlanta: Sources

Get ready to ring in the new year in a familiar setting!

If you were feeling nostalgic about the days of ringing in the new year at Underground Atlanta - we've got good news for you.

11Alive has confirmed with a source with direct knowledge that Atlanta's iconic New Year's Eve celebration - the Peach Drop - will be heading back to Underground Atlanta.

It will be the first time the event will be held in its traditional location since New Year's Eve 2016.

The Peach Drop has had a rocky "is-it-happening-or-is-it-not" ride in recent years. Back in 2015, city officials tried to call off the even after talks to sell Underground Atlanta got underway. But reaction from the public was swift and vocal - and then-Mayor Kasim Reed decided to put off the sale of the space so the event could go on.

Underground Atlanta hosted the New Year's Eve celebration again in 2016, and it was thought to be the last-ever there. Atlantans packed Woodruff Park the following year to watch the Peach Drop from the side of the 120-year-old Flatiron Building in 2017.

Flash forward to 2018, and Atlanta will once again be able to celebrate in Underground Atlanta.

No musical acts for this year's event have been named. When they are, 11Alive will post them on 11Alive.com.
