JEFFERSON, Ga. — A fire at a well-known flea market in Jackson County was unable to stop the location from opening its doors on Sunday thanks in no small part to several local fire departments.
Jefferson Fire Department said that it responded to a commercial fire at Pendergrass Flea Market, also known as La Vaquita, on Sunday morning. Pendergrass Flea Market said in a later update that the fire was on the porch of the market.
However, it didn't spread with help not only from the Jefferson Fire Department but also from the North Jackson and Plainview fire departments along with the Jackson County Emergency Services, Jackson County Emergency Management and the Jackson County Correctional Institute Fire Team.
"Fire caused minimal damage due to crews on scene making an aggressive attack," the Jefferson Fire Department wrote on Facebook. "Great Job by all."
The flea market also stressed on its social media accounts that it was open regular business hours from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and that everything was under control.
"Thank you to all our customers and vendors for their unconditional love and support," Pendergrass Flea Market wrote on Facebook.
Authorities haven't released details on the possible cause of the fire. On its website, the Pendergrass Flea Market said that regularly hosts more than 500 vendors from countries around the world had has more than 700 selling spaces.
