Man fatally shot near Norcross home, Gwinnett Police say

Around 1:10 a.m., officers were called to Pepperwood Trail near Norcross.

NORCROSS, Ga. — A man was killed early Sunday morning and police in Gwinnett County are working to learn what led to the shooting. 

Around 1:10 a.m., officers were called to 987 Pepperwood Trail near Norcross. That's where they found 39-year-old Angel Mendoza of Lawrenceville dead from an apparent gunshot wound. 

Late Sunday night, Gwinnett County Police announced the arrests of two people, including 26-year-old Esteven Avile-Vega who was charged with murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of certain crimes -- all felonies.

They also arrested his girlfriend and charged her with aggravated assault in connection to Mendoza's death.
