MABLETON, Ga. — A woman was killed and six people were taken to a hospital, including three children, in a 4-car crash that happened Tuesday night in Cobb County.
According to Cobb County Police, the crash began when a Nissan Kicks driving south on Factory Shoals crossed into the northbound lanes for "unknown reasons."
It collided with a Ford F-150, then hit a Dodge Dakota behind the Ford, and then collided head-on with an Acura behind the Dodge.
The driver of the Nissan, 55-year-old Sylvia Williamson, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Cobb County Medical Examiner. In the car with her were the three children -- a 1-year-old boy, 3-year-old girl and 8-year-old girl -- and two adults, a 28-year-old and 25-year-old. All five of them were hospitalized with serious injuries. The injuries to the 8-year-old girl were described as "severe."
The 52-year-old who was driving the Acura was also hospitalized. His condition or the severity of his injuries were not available.
Three others involved in the crash -- a 29-year-old driving the Ford F-150, the 58-year-old driving the Dodge Dakota and a 43-year-old passenger in the Dodger -- "escaped injury" Cobb Police said.
They described the full crash this way:
For unknown reasons, the Nissan crossed the double yellow line, entered the northbound lanes, and collided with the Ford, causing it to veer southwest. Subsequently, the Nissan collided with the Dodge, redirecting it southeast. The Nissan collided head-on with the Acura, leading to a counterclockwise rotation and coming to rest across both northbound lanes.
"The investigation into this collision is ongoing. Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact the Cobb County Police Department at 770-499-3987," the department said.
The crash happened north of South Gordon Road on Factory Shoals Road just before 6 p.m.
