MARIETTA, Ga. -- A man accused of shooting his girlfriend and leaving her for dead inside a parked car has been arrested by Marietta Police.
Marietta Police said Justin Cox was arrested without incident by a joint task force near 2100 Campbellton Road in Atlanta. His arrest comes after he was accused of fatally shooting Felicia Miller, over the weekend.
Around 4 p.m. Sunday, police responded to the 300 block of Pin Oak Court after receiving multiple 911 calls of shots fired. One caller told dispatch they saw a black man running from a home in the cul-de-sac.
When officers arrived they found Miller, 34, sitting in a parked 2007 Dodge Charger in the driveway of the home. Police said the mother was shot multiple times in front of her family. Miller was taken to Kennestone Hospital where she died.
Witnesses identified Justin Cox, 40, as the shooter.
Police said Cox was an "on again off again boyfriend." 11Alive's Ron Jones spoke to Miller's family, who were relieved Cox was arrested. Miller's father described him as a "heartless" man who had no problem shooting his girlfriend -- he said more than a dozen times -- in broad daylight while children played close by.
"My daughter died in my arms," he said. "She couldn't talk. She was gasping for air."
Police secured a warrant for Cox's arrest. He was taken into custody Monday.
Now that he is in custody, he's expected to be charged with homicide murder, possession of a firearm during a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
