Police: No selfies with gator in Peachtree City creek

Police are warning residents that there could be up to two alligators in a Peachtree City creek.

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- Police are warning residents that there could be two alligators lurking in a Peachtree City creek.

Authorities say there’s at least one large alligator known in the Flat Creek waters. He’s known as Flat Creek Floyd.

Southeastern Reptile Rescue’s Jason Clark was hired to capture Flat Creek Gator, but hasn’t had any luck. But he said he has seen at least two gators in the creek. The second, he said, could 10-feet long.

Police recently posted a warning on Facebook, urging residents to refrain from feeding or taking selfies with the alligator -- a warning some residents say they’re heeding.

Clark says alligators typically avoid humans unless someone’s been feeding them. And he suspects that may have been the case at the Disney Resort where 2-year-old Lane Graves lost his life on Tuesday.

Clark said that alligators natural habitat is anywhere south of Macon, but it’s not all that unusual for them to occasionally make their up to this area, south of Atlanta.

Just last month, an alligator discovered in the Chattahoochee River and relocated to South Georgia.

A gator spotted in a Lilburn pond was found dead on Monday. Georgia Department of Natural Resources officials said it had been killed by a snare trap.
