Efforts continue to restore widespread power outages after storms rip through the area

Power outages caused by strong winds that knocked down trees and power lines were widespread.

ATLANTA — In the aftermath of last night's storms, Georgia Power spent much of the day repairing down power lines and restoring service.

“The wind on Peachtree was massive, it was noisy, you could hear it, you could see it, we didn’t lose power, but where we are right now, they did," said Buckhead resident Rocky Ford as he described the conditions after storms ripped through the area Tuesday evening and into the overnight hours. “A good friend said no rain, no power but I knew something had happened,”

Power outages caused by strong winds that knocked down trees and power lines were widespread.

“It was an abrupt power outage, and we thought it was going to be temporary. The night wore on, and it was off and off. Only our street was out in this location, but I could see there were broad outages," said another resident.

According to Georgia Power, at one point, more than $140,000 residents statewide were without service, many of whom were right here in metro Atlanta; resident Luther Dupree and his family were among them.

“It just completely shut off, no worries, kids, they will find play out of anything,” added Dupree.

Dupree says his family spent over 15 hours without power but used the opportunity to get outside and disconnect.

“We had to go out to eat last night no tv but that was great we need that so as bad as it was we tired to be optimistic about it. Georgia power came by and save the day,” Dupree went on.
