Beloved prom queen and king awarded full scholarship to summer camp

Prom King Chris Wilcox and Prom Queen Sarah Jane Clark were awarded full scholarships to summer camp at Camp Big Heart.

WHEELER COUNTY, Ga. — "News traveled fast," a Wheeler County counselor said in an email.

Two Georgia teens in a small town were honored as prom king and queen for their big hearts.

King Chris Wilcox and Queen Sarah Jane Clark were celebrated on prom night last Saturday, April 13.

The celebration was coordinated by the Wheeler County High School senior class of 2024.

After 13WMAZ's story about the royal couple aired, the counselor's email stated "Sarah and Chris are being offered a FULL scholarship to Camp Big Heart."

According to the camp's website, "Camp Big Heart is an overnight summer camp for campers with mild to moderate special needs, sponsored by the Civitan Clubs of Georgia."

Its mission is "to provide the highest quality summer recreational camping experience for Georgia’s developmentally challenged children and adults."

Principal William Bell said he shared the news with their majesties' parents.

Everyone's thrilled for Chris and Sarah, he said.

Getting to share stories like theirs is just one of the many reasons we love what we get to do everyday at 13WMAZ.

We're sending Chris and Sarah a big 'Straight from the Heart' congratulations from all of us in Central Georgia!
