Organizers of an R. Kelly protest tonight at Wolf Creek Amphitheater are hoping for a large turnout in their campaign to convince Sony to drop the controversial artist from its record label.
The protest is being organized by Care2 and the #MuteRKelly campaign. They also hope to convince Live Nation to cancel the rest of the singer’s tour.
The rally follows a petition posted on Care2’s website by the #MuteRKelly campaign making the same demands of Sony and Live Nation. The petition has gathered over 36,000 signatures.
In July, an explosive Buzzfeed report accused R. Kelly of luring young women into his inner circle and keeping them against their will inside his homes in a 'cult'-like atmosphere.
The R&B star has denied the allegations.
Atlanta mayoral candidate John Eaves is calling for a full criminal investigation by the district attorney's office.
The district attorney's office said they are "evaluating" the new file, but there is currently no investigation.
"We are in the process of evaluating the file. Once the evaluation is complete, we will take the appropriate action," Fulton County district attorney Paul L. Howard, Jr. said in a statement sent to USA TODAY. "We are not investigating Mr. Kelly; we are merely reviewing the informational file provided by the Johns Creek Police Department.”
