Remains of woman found dismembered in Bartow County landfill positively identified

Investigators called the development an "important step in the investigative process

BARTOW COUNTY, Ga. — Authorities say they can confirm the identity of the remains of a woman found in a Bartow County landfill last month.

On Aug. 13, a sanitation worker called 911 after finding a woman's dismembered body while dumping a compactor container at the landfill.

Since then, investigators have been working to try and confirm the identity of the woman.

An initial autopsy by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation revealed the woman was a white female between the ages of 18 and 35 who had brown or red hair, 5'2 to 5'6 in height, approximately 150 pounds and several distinctive tattoos.

After authorities released a sketch of her face and a picture of one of her tattoos, investigators said they received hundreds of tips and messages.

Now, investigators believe they know who the remains belong to. According to Sheriff Clark Millsap, the GBI Medical Examiner's Office has positively identified the victim as Courtney Nicole Dubois, 20, of West Virginia.

Dubois had been reported missing by the Fairmont, West Virginia Police Department. Millsap said the medical examiners were able to use dental records from her family to confirm her identity.

Millsap called the development an "important step in the investigative process and allows law enforcement to focus specifically on Courtney Dubois from this point and going forward."
