Rennovated Manuel's Tavern re-opens on 60th anniversary of grand opening

Manuel's Tavern is finally re-opening after being closed for almost half a year to undergo rennovations.

ATLANTA -- Manuel's Tavern is finally returning!

After being shuttered for more than almost half a year, the iconic Poncey-Highland neighborhood bar is set to re-open to the public Saturday, Aug. 6 at 6 p.m.

The tavern had been closed since the end of December so the owners could renovate and restore portions of the 108-year-old building. Developers planned to use existing space from the tavern to include new retail and living spaces.

Original plans had slated the bar to re-open in late April or May of 2016. But now, it re-opens to the public on the 60th anniversary of its initial grand opening in 1956.

Celebrations are prepared for Saturday night, and neighborhood band The Marching Abominables will march and play through the newly renovated space.

Manuel's has been central to the Poncey-Highland neighborhood, and has memorabilia and other historic items from its long history. According to the tavern's website, those mementos will be cleaned and restored and moved during the renovations.
