ATLANTA -- A bomb threat aboard a Delta Airline flight headed to Atlanta on Tuesday turned out to be an apparent hoax.

The Delta flight from Nigeria was one of five nationwide that received some type of threat, according to NBC News. The airline says it investigated the threat before the plane landed and found it not credible.

The news came amidst a new report that cites the TSA's failure rate at 95 percent when it comes to detecting banned items.

A new Homeland Security undercover study found screeners failed to find illegal items in 67 out of 70 screenings.

TSA acting chief Melvin Carraway has now been reassigned and Homeland Security is promising changes.

Aviation Attorney Alan Armstrong has strong opinions about this latest black eye for the TSA.

"It is only a matter of time -- if this is the best they can do, then we're going to have a catastrophic event," Armstrong said.

Armstrong said he doesn't have much faith in Homeland security's promises to improve equipment and better train employees.

"How is training the TSA officers differently going to have a significant impact on ensuring our safety," he said.

Armstrong said technological improvements could be years down the road. But for now, travelers must rely on an agency whose own study found it to be clearly ineffective. He and others said they would like to see the TSA privatized, as it was before the events of Sept. 11, 2001.
