RIVERDALE, Ga. -- A veteran Riverdale police officer has died after being shot at an apartment complex Thursday. Here's what we know so far:
WHEN AND WHERE: The incident happened at the Villages on the River apartment complex, located at 6603 Church St. in Riverdale around 11:30 a.m.

WHAT HAPPENED: Members of the Riverdale Police Department were supporting Clayton County Police serve a no-knock warrant when shots were exchanged. A Riverdale police officer and the suspect were shot. The officer was shot in the abdomen and the arm. He was transported to Southern Regional Medical Center, where he later died. The officer was not wearing a bullet-proof vest, officials said.
The suspect was transported to Atlanta Medical Center in critical condition.
WHO: The officer has been identified as Major Greg Barney. Officials said he was much-loved veteran of the department of 25 years. At the time of his death, he commanded the Support Services Division.
The suspect's name has not been released.
QUOTES: Clayton County Police Chief Michael Register said the officer's death "is a loss for everybody."
"When one officer falls, we all fall," Register said.
