Historic Roswell farmhouse to be preserved through sale

The historic Pierce Hembree House in Roswell has a new owner

ROSWELL, Ga. — A historic Roswell home has been purchased and will get a new chance at life, according to the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation

The Pierce Hembree Farmhouse, located at 780 Hembree Road, was sold to a preservation-minded buyer that intends to repair and maintain the historic integrity of the home, the organization announced Wednesday.

The circa 1903 Folk Victorian style farmhouse was sold through the Trust's Revolving Fund program, which "works to save historic buildings across the state by providing effective alternatives to demolition or neglect of architecturally and historically significant properties by promoting their rehabilitation and monitoring their preservation in perpetuity."

The new owner signed agreements committing to rehabilitate the property and protect it from inappropriate alterations and demolition.

“The new homeowner has previous experience in rehabilitating older homes, and we have great faith in their abilities to preserve this historic house," said Georgia Trust President and CEO W. Wright Mitchell.

The Pierce Hembree House was originally constructed by Pierce Teasley Hembree in 1903. From 1903-1918, Pierce Hembree farmed 72 acres of land while living in this house. Family descendants have lived on the property for more than eight generations.
