City of Roswell closing access to Vickery Creek Waterfall | Here's why

The water access trail officially closed on Friday, August 16, 2024.

ATLANTA — The City of Roswell announced that access to the Vickery Creek/Old Mill Park waterfall is no longer allowed.

According to a statement on the city's website, the decision comes to "preserve the natural environment."

Why can’t I access the waterfall?

The city stated, "Closing access to the waterfall is crucial to ensure safety and maintain the park’s natural beauty. We encourage you to enjoy the park from the designated trails and viewing areas, which offer fantastic views of the waterfall."

Longtime visitors to the falls like, Michael Bennett say they don't understand the rule change.

“I’ve been coming down here for a decade and I haven’t seen any change to the environment so I’m not sure what that means," said Bennett.

What about parking issues at the waterfall?

The city also touched on parking issues at the attraction, particularly on busy weekends. As a result, visitors are encouraged to arrive early or use rideshare to get there.

So, can I still access the trails?

Yes! The city noted that visitors can still access the park's trails and that the only spot it is closing is the water access to the waterfall.

The water access trail officially closed on Friday, August 16, 2024.
