ROSWELL, Ga. — Police said a 42-year-old Roswell woman is dead and her suspected killer is in a hospital in serious condition after a dispute at a children's birthday party in Roswell.
According to the incident commander on the scene, the stabbing happened at Dalia's Events & Decor in a shopping center at 10479 Alpharetta Street - the Old Lake Place Shopping Center.
Authorities didn't initially have details on the victim or the suspect but later confirmed that 44-year-old Pedro Navarro-Zelaya, who is also the alleged attacker, is in serious condition at Wellstar North Fulton Hospital. The female victim, later identified by the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office as 42-year-old Margarita Cabrera-Maldonado of Roswell, was also taken to the hospital where she later died from her injuries.
Police said they're unsure if the suspect was stabbed or injured in another way. However, they did confirm that no shooting took place during the ordeal.
Police said that Maldonado and Navarro-Zelaya had been in a relationship, but noted that it had been over for about a year.
So far, police have not released a motive for the alleged crime.
