ROSWELL, Ga. — Imagine what it’s like going with little or no mail for months. That's what happened at one major apartment complex in Roswell.
It was at Post and Wander, an upscale apartment complex in a suburb of Atlanta,
US mail is left in individual boxes in a master grid. At least, that’s what is supposed to happen.
But based on the condition of these mailboxes, residents say it has been a different story.
For months, mail carriers came to the complex to leave mail, only to have to have to take it back to the Post Office because of all the broken mailboxes.
When they addressed the issue, management said the boxes were broken either because of vandalism or because they had difficulty getting vendors. Eventually, a viewer contacted 11Alive, and we got into it.
The concerned viewer who contacted us asked not to be personally identified, but she sure had a lot to say.
She said she contacted the complex management numerous times since March about the situation.
"We just never heard anything back from them, and when we did, it was a mass email to all residents saying they would fix it, and it just never got done," she explained.
The viewer added that management told them how to get their mail, but she says that’s not what happened at the Post Office.
"We were supposed to go to the Post Office, and they had so much mail backed up they didn’t have room for it, and they sent it back, so we never received anything," the resident explained.
We verified with the Roswell Post Office that much of the mail from Post and Wander had to be returned to the senders as the Post Office ran out of storage space.
To help restore mail delivery to the complex, we reached out numerous times to Post and Wander executives and to its parent company and got results—first with a temporary mailbox drop at a shopping center a mile from the complex and then with repairs finally being made. --- a return of the US Mail to secure and locked mailboxes.
