SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — A missing 5-year-old girl died after police found her in a swimming pool Friday morning, according to Sandy Springs officers.
Police said they received a call at 8:42 a.m. saying that girl, who has special needs, was missing. They quickly responded to the Elme Sandy Springs apartment complex and arrived there at 8:50 a.m. And after a short search, they found the child in the swimming pool of an apartment complex, officers said.
"Without hesitation, a Sandy Springs police officer jumped into the swimming pool and retrieved the child. Upon exiting the pool, first responders began life-saving measures on the child, and she was transported to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta where she was declared deceased," the news release said.
It's unclear at this time how the little girl accessed the pool. Sandy Springs Police did not release the 5-year-old's name.
However, it added that detectives are still investigating what happened.
