SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. -- A woman at Northside Hospital in Sandy Springs is battling a condition similar to what struck Aimee Copeland.
Copeland lost both her hands and legs to flesh-eating bacteria she contracted after a fall from a homemade zip line.
Shin Ae Kim, 30, has been in the hospital for two months and has been diagnosed with sepsis shock. Kim is married and has a 2-year-old son. She was four months pregnant when she was taken to the emergency room in February and had miscarriage.
Kim's heart stopped twice and was brought back by CPR, according to her family. She has lost her legs from the knee down and her hands but doctors say she's finally starting to recover.
"The hospital says it's a miracle that she's recovering this fast," said David Jung. "One of the doctors said he's never seen any patient who has walked out alive who was in a situation as critical as Mrs. Kim was."
Her family says they are most worried about her mental health because she may not yet realize what has happened.
Financial donations can be made by sending a check to the order of Fishers of Men Mission Church for Shin Ae Kim and/or John Paik. Checks can be mailed to:
604 Kirk Rd. #41
Decatur, GA 30030
She is also in need of finding a rehabilitation facility as well as sponsors for prosthetic legs and hands.
