ATLANTA — On Thursday, Atlanta Public Schools announced that they are investigating an employee who was allegedly found with a gun at Sarah Smith Elementary School.
The school district added in a statement that the gun was secured after they found it on the campus on Old Ivy Road.
The employee was placed on immediate administrative leave during the investigation, according to the school district.
"An APS official has reached out to the school parents to inform them of the incident," the statement said.
Atlanta Board of Education policy and Georgia law prohibits weapons on school campuses.
This incident comes after several students have been arrested for making threats following the shooting at Apalachee High School where two teachers and two students tragically lost their lives.

Atlanta Public Schools (APS) is currently investigating an incident involving a school employee who was found with a firearm at Sarah Smith Elementary School.
