ATLANTA — Another Georgia college has joined the protests in solidarity and support of Palestine in the war in Gaza. Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) students in Atlanta staged a walkout on campus on Wednesday.
Students held signs outside the entrance of the Atlanta campus, right off Peachtree Street, yelling various chants in support of a ceasefire.
The students also called for their college's divestment from Israeli companies.
Although a dozen officers stood at the entrance, providing security, no arrests were made, painting a more peaceful narrative than other demonstrations at Georgia colleges.
Just last week and earlier this week, several demonstrators were arrested at both the University of Georgia and Emory University.
Faith leaders recently came together on Tuesday to share a unified message pushing the Emory Administration to denounce violence against the students who were arrested.
"The narrative of outside agitator is old and played out come along with something new," said Rev. Kiana Jones.
They also asked for the charges against those arrested to be dropped.
Emory University said the incidents prompted enhanced security measures, including additions lighting surveillance cameras, increased patrols and limited access to buildings.
UGA is also facing scrutiny after several students said many of the 16 college protesters arrested on Monday were also suspended from classes at the university.
While the protest on SCAD's campus was peaceful, the past week with protest clashes with police has caused a rippling effect for college students across the state.
