GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — 11Alive is continuing to follow the story of a Gwinnett County hockey coach who committed suicide after being accused of sexual abuse.
Jason Greeson was a manager of the pro shop at the Ice Forum in Duluth, Georgia. Police said possible victims came forward on Thursday, but before investigators could secure warrants, he took his life.
Greeson, 40, built his career around coaching kids. It's a career 11Alive covered in the past. While he was not charged, 11Alive felt the story was important to share with parents, so they can have a conversation with their kids and to inform anyone who may have come in contact with him.
11Alive first reported on the story Friday, Aug. 24. Since then, parents have contacted us with questions about what happens next with a sexual misconduct investigation now that the alleged suspect, Greeson, took his own life.
One of the main ones parents have had is: is the case now closed?
We took the question to Gwinnett County Police, who said the case is done on their end. Since the alleged suspect is now dead, there's no way to prosecute the case. But, USA Hockey told 11Alive their investigation is ongoing since it involves several players, and there may be other victims. The organization now wants to talk to all players and family members who were in contact with Greeson to see if more allegations arise.
Police told 11Alive there were no previous accusations against the coach or other staff members at the Ice Forum.
As for the Ice Forum, the rink told 11Alive it conducts background checks every two years, and Greeson had not been flagged by previous complaints.
Some parents are now wondering what help will be offered to other potential victims.
USA Hockey told 11Alive it is working on providing resources for the players who came forward, in addition to the grief counselors already provided.
