Animals in Cobb County need a place to call home right now.

Cobb County Animal Control says the facility is nearly at full capacity and will have to begin putting down animals if they are not able to place them with families soon.

Shelter managers say the summer months are when the facility becomes the most crowded.

"It's right after spring, and that's mating season for cats and dogs so we have a lot of puppies and kittens turned in and we just get overblown. Especially with cats," said Shana Luke. "Dogs stay pretty busy all year long, we're pretty full, but cats, during the spring and summer, we just get litters and litters and litters."

They said the shelter is around 95% capacity.

The shelter works with various rescue organizations but sometimes that is not enough to free up space.

Employees are pleading with the public to stop by and leave with an animal

"They're really saving a life. You know we really, really need adopters right now. So you're really rescuing an animal right now," she said. "This is a shelter and we're full so it'd be great to have people come out right now."

You do not have to live in Cobb County to adopt a cat or dog from the facility. They're currently running a special offer of $10 for cats and kittens, and $10 for dogs that are already spayed or neutered. Those adoption events will run through the month of August.

You can contact Cobb County Animal Control at (770) 499-4136 or visit the shelter at 1060 Al Bishop Drive, Marietta, Georgia 30008.
