Here's something you don't see everyday - gas for under $2!
11Alive digital producer Chris Buchanan snapped a photo around 3 p.m. Sunday of a QT on Centerville Hwy selling regular unleaded gas for $1.98 a gallon.
That price is about 20 cents cheaper than the current average for a gallon of gas in the Atlanta area - about $2.26 per gallon. That's about 8 cents cheaper than last week and about 40 cents down from last month's average, according to Gas Buddy.
The highest average price this year for a gallon of gas was $2.90, in May. Atlanta is currently experiencing the lowest average price for a gallon of gas for this year - about 9 cents lower than prices were one year ago.
Most of the cheapest gas in the metro Atlanta area seems to be clustered in Gwinnett County, according to Gas Buddy. The Costco off Mall of Georgia Boulevard in Buford has gas for $1.94 a gallon. Gas stations in Duluth and Lawrenceville also appear to have gas for under $2 a gallon.
The current national average for a gallon of gas, meanwhile, is about $2.43. The lowest recorded average for a gallon of gas in the last 10 years was Dec. 29, 2008, when prices were $1.59 a gallon. The highest recorded average was June 16, 2008, when prices were $4.10 a gallon.
