ATLANTA — Two Druid Hills High School graduates are heading to the big stage in Paris.
Twins Sole and Sanna Frederick made the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic track team.
“It seems like a dream for me as I really got started just three years ago,” said Sole Frederick. “It feels great to make such a big event after all the hard work. And it is just the beginning.”
According to a Facebook post from the school's athletics teams, the two will run the 4X100 m relay at the Paris Games.
According to the Druid Hills Red Devils Athletics Team, the twins recently signed with the University of Georgia after earning athletic scholarships.
“It is such a blessing for us to get to tryout and make the Trinidad-Tobago Olympic team as such a young age,” said Sanaa. “It makes for such a long season but there is plenty more to come as we have more opportunities for the Olympics and World Games in the coming years.”
The athletics team called the two the "Turbo Twins." The two recently graduated from high school, and after competing in the City of Lights, they then head back to the Peach State, where they will attend UGA.
“Wow, Olympians,” said Druid Hills track coach Henrietta George. “My coaches and I are ecstatic about Sole and Sanaa heading to the Olympics. It has been a joy to watch their dreams come true right before our eyes.”
A spokesperson for the DeKalb County School District stated the two had a "stellar career" while they were in high school, leading the Lady Red Devils to back-to-back second-place finishes in the Class 4A State Track meets last year and this year.
The school district added the twin sisters, who also broke the 200-meter dash record for the second consecutive year at the GHSA Class 4A State Track and Field Championship.
"Sanaa Frederick became one of the most decorated girls’ track athletes in DeKalb history as she completed a third consecutive sweep in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, giving her six individual gold medals to go with a silver in the 200 and a bronze in the 100 in 2021," a news release from the school district added.
Their former coach said that their decorated high school careers have inspired many.
“Their positive attitude, hard work and dedication have inspired so many high school student-athletes to realize their dreams can come true,” said George. “ May they continue to soar and reach higher heights. We wish them all the best in Paris.”
11Alive previously spoke to the twins earlier this year in May after talking to the Red Devils team about smashing the state record.
Sole and Sanna Frederick, who are just a minute apart in age, explained how they run in sync with each other.
"When we run, it's identical; the times are exactly the same," Sanaa Frederick previously said.
"It's really fun. In practice, we are always going head-to-head, so it's really good competition," Sole Frederick previously.
The girls' father, Peter Federick, ran professionally for the country and coaches their relay team now.
"It just feels great to make him proud," Sanaa previously said.
Peter Frederick told the school district about how grateful he was that his daughters made it so far in their journies.
“I am very grateful, thankful, and blessed to be part of this journey, process and accomplishments for the last four years of their athletic career. Being their coach/dad was very challenging, but we made it. I wish them all the best in the future at the University of Georgia, and the best is yet to come out of my daughters," he added.
