ATLANTA — An argument in southwest Atlanta led to a gun battle Friday night that left one dead and another hospitalized, Atlanta police said.
Around 10 p.m., Atlanta Police said officers were dispatched to an address on Pope Street in Southwest Atlanta to reports of shots fired. They arrived to find two male victims, one of which had received gunshot wounds to the foot and thigh.
After applying a tourniquet to the victim, he was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and was described as "alert, conscious and breathing."
Officers said the second victim was taken privately to Grady Hospital. According to investigators, that victim was taken directly into emergency surgery. Police said he later died from his injuries.
According to the preliminary investigation, the two gunshot victims had been assisting a female family member who had been involved in a physical altercation with another female.
Detectives said the suspect in the shooting produced a rifle, which led to both victims receiving gunshot wounds.
Neither victim has been identified publicly by police. The investigation remains ongoing.
