Man found shot dead in car, Atlanta police say. Witness details may help catch his killer

ATLANTA — Police are on the lookout for a suspect who allegedly shot a man in a car in southwest Atlanta and then escaped, leaving him to die.

The shooting happened just after 7 p.m. on Saturday in the area of Fletcher Avenue SW.

Police arrived to find the victim in a vehicle unresponsive with an apparent gunshot wound to the torso. Paramedics who came to the scene soon confirmed he had died.

Witnesses said that after the shooting, they saw a man jump out of the vehicle and escape on foot. Based on preliminary details, police believe the shooting was drug-related but didn't have more details on a possible motive beyond that.

Homicide investigators are now responding to the scene as the overall investigation continues.

Police haven't publicly identified the shooting victim. That will likely happen after his family is notified.
