Deputies offer $10K reward | Man wanted in deadly shooting of Spalding County 11-year-old

Kionta Jahaun Parks is wanted by deputies after he was identified as the suspect in the deadly shooting of Asijah Love Jones, 11.

SPALDING COUNTY, Ga. — Spalding County deputies released new information about a deadly shooting that killed an 11-year-old girl in Griffin. They are also offering a $10,000 reward for any information leading to the suspect's arrest.

Sheriff Darrell Dix said they are searching for Kionta Jahaun Parks, who is wanted in the deadly shooting of Asijah Love Jones. The 11-year-old was killed after she was hit by a stray bullet at a Spalding Heights apartment complex.

The bullet traveled into Jones' bedroom, hitting and killing her almost instantly. She was sleeping with her little sister when she was struck, police said.

Investigators believe the shooter was aiming for someone else and missed. The intended target was a car, which held an adult and 8-year-old, officials confirmed.

"Our shooter Mr. Parks stepped out from between two buildings and fired 23 rounds out a rifle at the car, the driver and child were able to back away," Dix said.

Dix said gang related crimes are an ongoing issue in Spalding County, with this being the latest heartbreaking example.

Parks is now wanted for several charges including felony murder and cruelty to children. Jones' killing is drawing criticism from those who knew Parks, according to Dix.

"Some of his fellow gang members, even they are denouncing this act," Dix said.

The Spalding County Sheriff's Office is now offering a $10,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of Parks.

Deputies urge residents not to approach Parks, as he is considered armed and dangerous. If you have any information about Parks' whereabouts, call the Spalding County Sheriff's Office at 770-467-4282.
