LITHONIA, Ga. —
A body was found outside of a dumpster at a sports complex in DeKalb County Thursday morning.
The call came in to the DeKalb Southeast Athletic Complex on Hillvale Rd. in Lithonia just after 7:30 a.m.
DeKalb County Police Sgt. Jacques Spencer said that maintenance workers discovered the body when they showed up to work and immediately called police. Spencer said the body has not been identified and it was unclear if the victim was a man or a woman.
"Investigators first need to determine who the person is and basically work from there," Spencer said. "It's a new scene so we want to give them time to figure out what happened."
Spencer said that the dumpster is located in a parking lot area a little ways down from the park entrance. No cars were spotted nearby.
"I don't want to speculate on what took place and give investigators time to do a thorough investigation," Spencer said.
