LITHONIA, Ga. -- Grammy-nominated singer Angie Stone was arrested on an assault charge after she allegedly knocked her 30-year-old daughter's front teeth out with a metal stand.
According to the DeKalb County Police Department report, authorities were called to Angie Stone's home on Rogers Lake Road around 9:30 p.m. Monday.
Diamond Stone told police that her 53-year-old mother had come into her room and demanded that she clean up and "get her children since they were running around the house half naked." Diamond Stone said her mother then got into her face and told her to leave. An argument ensued and things got physical.
Angie Stone told police that her daughter started punching her in the face. She said she defended herself by striking Diamond Stone with a metal stand to the face. Angie Stone told police that once she realized she hit her daughter with the metal stand, she put it away and tried to get away from her. The singer told police that her daughter kept coming at her "as if to strike her again" before someone intervened and broke up the fight.
Both Angie Stone and her daughter were taken to DeKalb County Police headquarters for questioning. Upon further investigation, Diamond Stone was released with no charges, and her mother was charged with aggravated assault.
Angie Stone is a three-time Grammy nominated R&B singer, as well as an occasional actor, according to Billboard.com. She was nominated for a Grammy in 2003, 2004 and 2008. Her 2007 album, The Art of Love & War, topped the Billboard R&B/hip-hop chart. Her latest album, Rich Girl, was released in 2012.
