There were reports of damage across the metro Atlanta area on Wednesday after a storm dumped heavy rain onto roads and sparked numerous lightning fires.
In Gwinnett County, a Duluth apartment building was struck by lightning, causing a fire that damaged apartments on both upper and lower floors.
"Lightning struck the building and caused, I guess, an electrical fire and burst some pipes," Vanessa Roussell said. "I have water damage in my apartment."
Fire officials said there was another fire in the Duluth area, apparently caused by lightning. A home there suffered minimal damage.
Elsewhere, flash flooding caused backups on local streets and on major interstates, such as Interstate 20, where crews worked to clear drains that were backed up.
On Metropolitan Parkway, waters from a nearby drain flooded Lilly Perry's back yard and almost made it into her home.
On Peeples Street in the West End, a tree limb was quickly removed from blocking the road. And on Tiger Flower Drive, half of Hilda Holt's Oak tree fell into the roadway, blocking her street -- but not hitting her house.
Gwinnett County Fire and Rescue responded to five fires in a two-hour period.
