At least 6 students hospitalized after school bus crash in Newton County, officials say

The crash happened on Covington Bypass Road in front of Middle Ridge Elementary School, according to the sheriff's office.

NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. — At least six students were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after a crash involving a school bus on Tuesday, according to a spokesperson for Newton County Schools.

The crash happened on Covington Bypass Road in front of Middle Ridge Elementary School, according to the Newton County Sheriff's Office.

Newton County Schools said six students were taken to Piedmont Newton Hospital for treatment. 

The driver of the second vehicle involved in the crash was also taken to the hospital with unknown injuries, the sheriff's office added.

Deputies said the area will be shut down until further notice and for drivers to use an alternate route. 

The school district added Georgia State Patrol is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
