Suspected wife-murderer in police custody

According to Gwinnett County Police, Sheldon Soyer shot and killed his wife, Vanessa Soyer, at the Hillcrest apartment complex late Monday morning.

According to Gwinnett County Police, Sheldon Soyer shot and killed his wife, Vanessa Soyer, at the Hillcrest apartment complex late Monday morning.

The shooting prompted a lockdown and closure of the nearby Georgia Gwinnett College.

According to Captain Jeff Smith of Lawrenceville Police, Soyer was taken into custody without incident Tuesday morning at the intersection of Sugarloaf Parkway and Old Norcross Road.

Police had developed information concerning Soyer's whereabouts and as police approached the intersection, Soyer emerged from a store at the location and was taken into custody.

Soyer has been charged with one count of aggravated assault and one count of felony murder. He is in the Gwinnett County Jail and may have his first Magistrate Court appearance Wednesday morning.
