SUWANEE, Ga. -- Gwinnett School officials placed a heavy police presence at two Gwinnett County Schools on Wednesday.
At Brookwood High School, authorities provided extra security, including from other law enforcement agencies, because of a threat sent to some of the school staff by email.
In the end, nothing occurred and they had a normal school day.
Across the county, in Suwanee, the district placed additional police because of several fights on and off campus.
The principal at Brookwood, William Ford, Jr., sent a letter to parents telling them about the incident and letting them know "the safety and security of our students and staff is the top priority".
The threatening emails didn't target a specific individual, but went to several on the school staff.
"The email had the same wording. It was senr from the same email address," said Gwinnett Public Schools spokesperson Sloan Roach.
Nothing happened, but officers are working to find out who's behind the threats.
"(We want) to see if they can track down the origin of that email," Roach.
Gwinnett School authorities are also trying to deal with fights.
"Last week, there were three fights at Collins Hills High. There was another one that occurred off campus over the weekend," said Roach. "There were two other occasions where large groups of kids congregated because they had heard there was going to be a fight."
The fights were fueled by of "lots of chatter on various social media," said Principal Kerensa Wing in a letter to parents.
They have occurred during and after school, so officials release students by hallways.
The district have a warning to students.
"If it can be proven that you're encouraging people to fight, that you're encouraging people to break these rules, then you could face discipline action as well," said Roach.
The district plans to keep heavy police presence will continue both here at Brookwood and Collins Hills.
