NEWNAN, Ga. — A SWAT standoff has come to an end in Newnan after authorities said a wanted murder suspect had barricaded themselves inside of a home.

Newnan Police said the suspect, 19-year-old Omar Rosser Jr., died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside the home.

A spokesperson with the City of Newnan said the SWAT team was called to assist at a home along McIntosh Parkway because of a Meriwether County murder suspect refusing to come outside.

The SWAT standoff stemmed from a homicide that happened on Wednesday afternoon around 5:40 p.m. at a home on College Street in Luthersville, Georgia, in Meriwether County.

Meriwether County deputies responded to the location and found 19-year-old Bryant Elder shot and killed near a storage shed behind the home. Elder had a single gunshot wound to the chest, deputies said.

Rosser was identified as the alleged shooter at the scene by deputies. After the alleged shooting by Rosser, he then left the home in Elder's Mazda, before law enforcement found it abandoned a short while later in the Zion Hill Community in Meriwether County.

Deputies had been searching for Rosser up until Friday's SWAT standoff, which ended in Rosser taking his own life.
