According to county officials, the wreck happened after 1 p.m. on Saturday on GA-365 in Demorest. The church van was involved in a wreck with an SUV, with seven people involved taken to hospitals at the time.
Bone was airlifted to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta-Egleston. Three other victims of the crash, all described by Georgia State Patrol as juveniles, were also transported by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
The conditions of the surviving juveniles who were injured in the wreck were not disclosed by the county.
The exact circumstances of the wreck are being investigated by GSP. The agency said the 64-year-old driver of the SUV "failed to stop at the red traffic light at the intersection, resulting in its collision" with the church van. The wreck caused the church van to also collide into a concrete median.
The SUV driver "was found to be driving under the influence (DUI) and was charged accordingly," GSP said.
The church associated with the van was not identified.
