ATLANTA -- One of the two $1 million dollar Powerball tickets winners in Georgia has claimed their prize.
The number sequence 4, 8, 19, 27, 34 and 10 was a life changer for the lucky winners in California, Florida and Tennessee.The ticket holders beat the the 1-in-292.2 million odds and hit the record $1.6 billion jackpot
According to Georgia Lottery Commission Communications Director Tandi Reddick, the $1 million tickets, which correctly picked five numbers but missed out on the Powerball -- were purchased in Atlanta and Douglas.
The Atlanta ticket was purchased at the Quik Mart on 48 Broad Street SW. That winner, Shaadi Edwards, an Atlanta resident, claimed her prize on Thursday, lottery officials said. She told lottery officials that she realized she won after she saw the results on Twitter.
"It felt surreal," she said.
Edwards said she used ages and birthdays to select her winning combination. She hopes to purchase a home, pay off her grandparents' house, and do advocacy work.
The Douglas ticket was purchased at the Quick Stop at 1656 US Highway 221 N.
One ticket winning $100,000 was sold at the Jones Bridge Food Mart in Alpharetta.
Thirty other tickets worth $50,000 were sold in Georgia. According to Georgia Lottery officials, they were sold in: Alpharetta, Atlanta (2), Bremen, Brunswick, College Park, Dallas, Duluth, Eastman, Evans, Forsyth, Hampton (2), Hapeville, LaGrange, Lake Park, Mableton, Macon (2), Marietta, Peachtree City, Roswell, Sharpsburg, Suwanee, Tallapoosa, Temple, Thunderbolt, Trenton, Valdosta and Winder.
Lucky ticket holders in three states — California, Florida and Tennessee — will split a record $1.6 billion Powerball jackpot that had lured of millions of lottery hopefuls into a frenzied buying spree until the last moments.
The individuals have yet to claim a part of the share however. The winning tickets were sold in Chino Hills, Calif.,Munford, Tenn. and Melbourne Beach, Fla.
