Buford Highway reopens after 'homeless encampment fire,' police say

Drivers were encouraged to avoid the area.

ATLANTA — Multiple lanes of Buford Highway are now reopened Sunday after a homeless encampment fire shut down lanes for several hours, according to Brookhaven Police.

Officers said the fire first broke out around 11:15 a.m.

This is underneath the bridge of Lenox Road and Buford Highway connector.

Drivers were encouraged to avoid the area.

Brookhaven Police previously said Buford Highway will remain closed for an undetermined length of time until DOT can inspect it.
