GWINNETT COUNTY, GA (WXIA) -- Give a little, share a little.
Thursday is Georgia Gives Day, which means Georgians are coming together to support groups and causes in our own backyards.
One of the most famous Georgia faces is Tripp Halstead.
Tripp suffers from a brain injury and today he and his family had the opportunity to give back to one of the charities that helped them. When Tripp and his mom Stacy show up, so do others.
As a part of Georgia Gives Day, Stacy and Tripp are helping out at the brand new location for "Sunshine on a Ranney Day." The non-profit creates dream room makeovers for children with long term illnesses like Tripp.
"It's sad when they come home and you have to bring the equipment with you. The oxygen tanks and the hospital beds and the machines and if you can just brighten up that room and make it more of your own, then those things fade in the background," said Stacy.
"They like to put smiles on people's faces and make people happy, and give them hope," said Charlie Mabry.
Sixteen year old Charlie had his bedroom redone and Nathan Gramling – who has cystic fibrosis – got a whole new theater room where he can get his daily treatments.
"I can go and watch movies and play games with a big TV, and they've got a sound system hooked up," said Nathan.
Stacy put the word out to her 1.1 million Facebook followers, and so far, Sunshine on a Ranney Day is in the top three in donations for Georgia Gives Day -- where the thousands of Georgia's non-profits are raising money in a 24-hour period.
"Even if it's $5," Stacy said. "You don't buy a coffee today. Spend the $5 and put it toward a charity."
Sunshine on a Ranney Day is hoping to raise $75,000. They say it's the final push for the year and it will be a great way to start 2015.
