The Troup County Sheriff's Office announced Saturday afternoon that Deputy Arthur Ransom passed away at a metro Atlanta hospital after suffering a severe medical emergency several days ago.
The sheriff's office says that despite receiving extensive medical care, he was never able to fully recover.
Deputy Ransom began his public safety career in the late 1980s, according to the sheriff's office. They said he had also worked in the private sector for many years.
He leaves behind his wife of more than 20 years, Carla, and five children.
Deputy Ransom will be missed by his family, friends and colleagues. The sheriff's office asks for prayers and thoughts of remembrance for the deputy's family in this time of sorrow and mourning.
