Stone Mountain Inn shooting in Tucker leaves one dead, another injured

One victim was found shot in the head and the other took himself to an area hospital for treatment.

TUCKER, Ga. — Police say they arrived at a Tucker motel room on Sunday night to find a man dead with a gunshot wound to the head - and soon learned he wasn't the only victim.

According to DeKalb County Police Sgt. Davin Morgan, officers responded to the Stone Mountain Inn & Suites on Mountain Industrial Boulevard around 10 p.m. to find the first victim, 37-year-old Lavar Ellis, already dead in one of the rooms.

They soon learned of a second victim, 36-year-old William Legrand, who had driven to an area hospital. That victim had injuries police said weren't life-threatening.  .

"We are still trying to piece together the circumstances that led up to this shooting," Sgt. Morgan said.

Police are now canvassing the area for witnesses and hoping they'll uncover statements that shine more light on this violent incident. For now, police don't know how many shooters there are or if both victims were staying at the motel or, if they were, how long they were at the Stone Mountain Inn before the shooting unfolded.

Police are concentrating their investigation on one room at the motel where they believe the shooting unfolded. Stone Mountain Inn is located on Mountain Industrial Boulevard just off of Stone Mountain Freeway in DeKalb County.

No other information in the case was available.
