SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Uncle Bubba's Oyster House has announced that it has permanently closed its doors.
The announcement was made on the restaurant's Facebook page. The restaurant's website has been deleted and replaced by a message that simply says, "Thank you for 10 great years. Uncle Bubba's is now closed."
WSAV contacted Uncle Bubba's partner restaurant, Lady and Sons to confirm the closing. A hostess said that Bubba's has permanently closed.
Several employees told WSAV that they were not notified of the closing.
Uncle Bubba's is owned by celebrity chef Paula Deen's brother, Earl "Bubba" Hiers. Last year, the restaurant was embroiled in a scandal where a former employee accused Deen and Hiers of using racial slurs and sexual innuendo on the job. A lawsuit brought against Deen and Hiers was dismissed last August.
