Union City firefighter hospitalized after 'accidental' shooting at fire station, officials say

Union City Fire Department has not released much information but did say the shooting took place at Fire Station No. 2.

UNION CITY, Ga. — A shooting at a Union City fire station led to a firefighter being taken to the hospital, the department confirmed on Thursday morning. 

Union City Fire Department said the shooting took place at Fire Station No. 2, which is off Shannon Parkway, before midnight on Wednesday.

Authorities have not said what led up to the shooting, but they said early indications suggest that the shooting was accidental. The firefighter was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital and remains in critical but stable condition.

The identity of the injured firefighter has not been released at this time. 

"The safety and well-being of our firefighters are of utmost importance, and we are working diligently with law enforcement to determine the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate event," Union City fire officials said in a statement.

The department offered its thoughts and prayers to the injured firefighter and their family. 

The incident remains under investigation.
