WARNER ROBINS, Ga. —
A Warner Robins couple will soon be inviting your kids to put on their chef's hat and prepare their best Gordon Ramsey dish.
Cooking-- it’s a life skill just about anyone can learn at just about any age.
That’s one of the reasons why Daphne and Tarell Register decided to open a cooking school in Warner Robins.
"Over here will be another kitchen,” Daphne Register pointed to in their new location.
For now-- you'll have to just imagine what the soon to be Young Chef's Academy will look like.
This space is now theirs after one of their daughters expressed interest in the culinary world.
"One was like 'I want to take cooking classes' and I was like, 'cooking classes? There's nothing around here like that.' So, I went to Google and I started researching and the first thing that pulled up was young chefs academy and the closest one was in Atlanta," Register said.
That's when they decided to bring one to Warner Robins.
Once things are up and running, the couple says there will be two kitchens and weekly classes.
Your little chef-in-training will have the chance to learn things like etiquette, knife handling, and how to bake.
"Its curriculum based so they'll get their notebooks that they'll come into class with every day that has the recipes in it, they'll be able to write things in it. They'll have their chef jackets, they can graduate to different levels, get their patches," Register said.
She says she'll dust off a chef's coat of her own to teach but she's happy about the opportunity to hire locally and the opportunity to bring something to her community.
"So, I'm really excited about bringing this to Middle Georgia. Young Chef's Academy is about teaching the joy and value of cooking and having fun while doing it. And so, I just think again, cooking is a life skill. It's something kids will enjoy, I think adults will enjoy, just the community in general,” she said.
Adults, you don’t have to feel left out, the Register's say they'll have their 'Young Chef's at Heart' --their specialty night where grown-ups can come and cook too.
Construction will begin in April and the academy will open in July.
