ACWORTH, Ga. — Water access at Lake Acworth has been restored after it was temporarily closed last week due to a sewage spill.
Acworth officials confirmed Tuesaday that advisories had been lifted after bacteria returned to baseline levels.
Testing started Friday after grease clogged a sewer line and caused an overflow in a nearby creek that feeds into the lake. At the time, Cobb County Water Service recommended closing water access to the lake due to slightly elevated bacteria levels, which could be considered high risk for swimming.
The city conducted its latest test on the lake on Sunday, and the results passed, allowing restored access to the water. This includes access to both Cauble and South Shore Parks.
A release said heavy rains over the weekend also likely contributed to higher-than-normal bacteria readings.
Cobb Water advises residents to avoid putting any fats, oils or grease into the sewage system.
